Overview

Dell XPS 17 9700 is a large premium notebook for demanding daily work, content creation, and multimedia use. The tested configuration combines a 10th Gen Intel Core i7-10750H processor, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 Ti Max-Q graphics, 16 GB RAM, and a 1 TB SSD. The 17-inch 3840x2400 touch display and 16:10 aspect ratio are key highlights, while portability is secondary because of the 2.51 kg weight.

Design and Build

The chassis combines aluminum panels with a carbon-fiber keyboard deck. The outer finish is silver and the inner working area is black. Build quality is strong, and the dual hinges hold the screen steadily up to about 150 degrees. The palm-rest area can collect fingerprints quickly, and mobility is limited by the large 17-inch form factor.

Display, Audio, and Webcam

The 17-inch panel has high resolution, strong brightness, high contrast, and wide viewing angles from the IPS panel. The source also reports full sRGB and high AdobeRGB coverage, making it suitable for image-focused workflows. The glossy surface can reflect light outdoors. Four speakers deliver loud and clear sound, though vibration may appear at higher volume. The 720p webcam is usable but not sharp, while the IR sensor helps fast Windows sign-in.

Keyboard and Touchpad

The keyboard uses large island-style keys with backlighting and short 1.3 mm travel. Typing feel is clear and stable for long sessions. The touchpad is very large and supports multitouch gestures, but its size can require more deliberate hand placement for precision input.

Performance, Ports, and Battery

For productivity and creative workloads, the Core i7-10750H and GTX 1650 Ti Max-Q provide solid performance. The tested model is also upgrade-friendly with two RAM slots and two SSD slots. Connectivity is modern but narrow in type: four Thunderbolt 3 ports, SD reader, and audio jack, with no native HDMI or full-size USB-A. Wireless support includes Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.1. Battery life is a strong point: around 10 hours in web browsing or 1080p streaming at moderate brightness was reported, with full charge in about 2 hours.

Under sustained load, heat and noise become important considerations. The review reports high CPU temperature and warm surface areas in gaming scenarios, which can affect long heavy sessions.

Verdict

Dell XPS 17 9700 is best for users who want a large, high-quality display, premium materials, and strong everyday-to-advanced performance in one device. Its main strengths are screen quality, battery capacity, and overall build. Main compromises are thermal behavior under load, average webcam quality, and limited port variety without legacy connectors.
