Overview

Microsoft Surface Go 2 is a 10.5-inch tablet that can also work as a small notebook when paired with the optional Type Cover keyboard. The device is easy to carry, feels solid in daily use, and offers a bright 3:2 display for reading, web browsing, and media. This configuration uses an Intel Pentium Gold 4425Y processor with 8 GB RAM and a 128 GB SSD, so it is aimed at light office work, study, and everyday home tasks.

Design and Build

The magnesium-alloy chassis feels rigid, with no major flex in normal handling. A built-in rear kickstand opens to a wide angle, which helps when typing, watching video, or using a pen. At 544 g, the device is easy to carry in a small bag, and its compact body is one of its strongest practical advantages.

Display, Audio, and Cameras

The 10.5-inch PixelSense display uses a 3:2 aspect ratio that works well for documents and web pages. Brightness is around 400 nits according to the source review, so indoor and moderate outdoor visibility are generally good. Glossy coating can cause reflections under strong sunlight. Stereo speakers are loud enough for a small room, while the 5 MP front camera with IR support is useful for video calls and Windows Hello sign-in.

Keyboard and Input Experience

The optional Type Cover keyboard improves usability for longer writing sessions. Key travel is short but feedback is clear, and backlighting supports work in low light. The touchpad is described as smooth and responsive, with Microsoft Precision gesture support. Keep in mind that the keyboard and stylus are sold separately, which raises the full setup cost.

Performance and Daily Use

With the Pentium Gold 4425Y and Intel UHD Graphics 615, Surface Go 2 is best for documents, browser work, mail, streaming, and simple educational apps. It is not built for heavy creative software or demanding multitasking. The default Windows 10 Home S mode can improve control and safety for basic users, but software limits may be restrictive until S mode is disabled.

Ports, Connectivity, and Battery

Physical connectivity is basic but functional: USB Type-C, Surface Connect, microSD expansion, and a 3.5 mm audio jack. Wireless support includes Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.0. The source review reports around 8 hours for video playback and about 5 hours in heavier mixed use, with full charging in roughly 2.5 hours.

Verdict

Surface Go 2 is a well-built and highly portable 2-in-1 for users who prioritize mobility, display quality, and light productivity. Its main strength is compact everyday usability; its main compromise is limited performance for advanced workloads. It is a practical choice for study, travel, and basic office tasks, especially if expectations stay within entry-level performance.
